Stephens, Uriah Smith
(3 ago. 1821, Cape May, N.J., EE.UU.–13 feb. 1882, Filadelfia, Pa.).

Dirigente sindical estadounidense. Cuando era aprendiz de sastre, participó en movimientos de reforma, como el abolicionismo y el socialismo utópico, y en 1862 ayudó a organizar la Asociación de cortadores de vestuario de Filadelfia. En 1869 fue cofundador de la noble orden de los caballeros del trabajo, el primer sindicato nacional de EE.UU., y se convirtió en su primer líder (o gran maestro trabajador). La gran convocatoria del sindicato sumada a la hostilidad de sus detractores hicieron que Stephens prefiriera la confidencialidad y el ritual en sus reuniones, lo que fue cada vez más controvertido, al igual que el hecho de que se opusiera a las huelgas. Renunció a su cargo en 1878.
